Directories
A directory is a list of sites manually put into categories by humans.
The two main directories that will accept adult sites are Yahoo.com and dmoz.org.
When someone searches in yahoo, directory categories are listed at the top and search
engine results are listed under those. dmoz.org is a directory that is used by many
search engines that don’t have their own directories.
Directories will probably not include you if you submit our basic sextoysex.com site.
In order to get in the directory, you need your site to look distinct and different from
any others on the internet. You will need the site under your own domain and will probably
need to make many of your own pages.
Getting in the directory can be helpful, not only because you can get traffic from the
directory, but some search engines may give your site a higher ranking if you are in these
popular directories.
If you are building a customized site just for the directory, choose the category you want
to be in and then name your site something that begins with a character like “#”
or a number or the letter “a” so that your site will come out at the top
of the alphabetical order. If you want the directory to list your site with the name
“AAA sextoys”, then make your domain, title on the front page, and name on the
page “AAA sextoys”.
It is best to be very careful in customizing your site for directory acceptance, but once
you are accepted, you may be able to make changes to your site without being kicked out.
We are not sure how often directories check their existing sites, but if you don’t
completely change the name and contents of your site to something unrelated, you will
probably remain safely in your position in the directory.
